What managers have said to us but we feel they shouldn't have said...

Let's start a list of all things manager's/boss's have told us in the past that we feel we shouldn't have been told. I'll start off with 2:

    1) I was told something was "None of my business" when I asked why a certain error had occurred in one of our scripts. Hmm, I work in the department, I work with the scripts, yet it's "none of my business" to know why the error occurred. Does that make sense to anyone else? I didn't think so.

    2) I've been told on several occassions that "you can work on this task if you want to, but you don't have to." Um, it really makes me feel like my manager is obligated to ask me if I want to work on something, yet feels I'm not qualified enough to do it!

So what are all your classic phrases??

Reply: 3) Here's my classic. Here is the response I got when I told my boss that I was unable to keep up with the workload: "Well, just don't do it". Not to be confused with "I will take it off your plate". It stayed on the plate.

Reply: I am a Children's Director at a church (church meets every SUNDAY) -- when my nursery coordinator questioned me about why she needed to be here on Sundays (remember---this is a church that meets on Sunday!) my boss told me that, "I needed to keep her happy!" Go figure...aren't bosses a hoot!?

Reply: I am a newly promoted manager, of which most of my subordinates are friends of my boss. When I go to him for advise, he says "they are your subordinates, follow your own instinct". But when someone wants special treatment that I deny, they go to him and get their way. Go figure.
