I have been working in a health care providers office for just about 2 months. This is not my area of expertise, however I have been off of work for about 3 years for personal reasons. The opportunity presented itself, and I figured this would be a great way to gain new experience. The office mangaer (wife) was impressed with my resume mostly geared to Accounts Management and Customer Service, and I was hired to preform front office duties. Remind you she (wife) new there was no medical training, but figured I would be an asset due to other strong abilities. I made it very clear that I wanted to have the physican approve my employment prior to signing on.

Since I have been there, there is no organization, no policy and procedure ever shown or relayed to me. There was no real sense of training, but I am able to pick up very quickly, and display a true interest in helping operations run more clearly and organized. My problem is, this office was a mess, no clear communication, and staffed basically with individual's like myself with no prior medical experience. I have since learned the office turn over rate is unbelievable. I have patients telling me everytime I come in here theres a new face. Apparently, before I was hired, there was a pattern. This physcian, is very verbally abusive to the staff. I have heard him scream at his (wife) office manager, and the poor young girl who aids him w/patients( and has no idea what she's doing). He has called her stupid and idiot so many times, I actually feel sorry for her.

On my B-Day I got my first taste of his kind words. He even said to his wife I don't care if it's her b-day and starting talking in his native language. I couldn't believe I got told what I did after I only helped him with what he needed. 1 wk later he did it again, but to everyone, calling us basically the usual. Since I've been there we get pretty much told off in English and in another lang. once a week.

We even got a Happy New Year with, we are so stupid. I am ready to leave, but since I've been off for awhile I'm torn. I just believe there should be employer/employee respect. Truthfully if he would PAY the right people maybe he wouldn't be screaming everyother day. Do we have rights against this constant verbal abuse?

Reply: Hi Sandyb Your employer is a bully and inconsiderate to his employees. It is not your fault and I'm sure you are quite intelligent. This person will most likely never change. However, document everything you do and stand up to him. Bullies are relentless if you allow it to continue. This guy is hitler like. With your skills, you could go somewhere else. As far as I know, there is nothing you can do about verbal abuse. Looks like its an epidemic we all have to live with. Lots of people I know work in toxic work enviroments.

Reply: How about a verbally disrespectful employee (whom upper management refuses to discipline) and then upper management also becoming verbally abusive to the manager reporting the verbal abuse....Twisted! I know the next time this occurs that the company's refusal to discipline the verbally abusive employee and thus causing a hostile work environment will be immediately reported to the appropriate state and or federal agency. No one's, I repeat, no one's job description states that s/he must be a victim of verbal abuse. The abuser should be appropriately disciplined and if s/he is not, the company needs a wake up call. Glad to say I gave it one ;)....and looking forward to the next one, and the next one, until the company "gets" it. How stupid are these h.r. managers?

Reply: I WAS ASSAULTED BY MY BOSS AND EVEN STATED TO HER BOSS WHAT SHE WAS GOING TO DO TO ME. I FILED A POLICE REPORT AND TOLD HIGHER SUPERIORS; HOWEVER, EVERYONE ACTS AS THOUGH NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. THIS PERSON CONTINUES TO WORK AROUND ME SHE SHOULD BE ARRESTED BECAUSE SHE BROKE THE LAW. SHOULD I CALL THE POLICE FOR HER ARREST? WILL THAT JEOPARDIZE MY JOB? I HAVE A RIGHT TO DO THIS DON'T I?
