10 years experience...now being told I do everything wrong by new boss!

I have been working at my present job for over 10 years now. Recently one of my co-workers was made supervisor of my position. This women has always second guessed me, told me I was doing my joh wrong, and has a way of making me feel inadequate at a job that I truly love. I work part time and it kills her...but I can honestly say I give 100% of myself to this job. When I found I she was going to be my supervisor everyone, everyone, felt my pain. I was ready to quit. Other co-workers convinced me that even though she may not like everyone wants me there. It made me reconsider and decide to stick it out. Within the month that I am working under her she spoke down to me in front of co-workers, and goes days without even saying hello and responding to me emails. Her boss (which was my direct boss) is well aware of her behavior. She laughs it off and goes back into her office. Meanwhile I am sharing a cubicle with her and I have to deal with her moodiness. At one time we were friends...don't know what happened. I make sure that I respect her as my supervisor but she still has not even attempted to know my job in case I am out. Needless to say I don't want to leave this great job, with benefits, part time and I have some many friends! The bottom line is her boss sees her inappropriate behavior, and in my opinion has no supervisory skills what-so-ever, but does nothing about it because she is the office bully!! Nobody wants to upset her. I need advice...When I approached her about her talking down to me in front of my peers , so actually apologize, made up an excuse why she did it (pointing the finger at me ofcourse)...but after that, within 30 minutes, she was back to being indifferent. I can go on and on...HELP

Reply: The problems you describe are familiar to me and are classic behaviours of a colleague promoted to a mangerial role without any specific training. They are insecure and find you threatening. I am the auhor of Is Your Boss Mad? (available on amazon), and I think you would find my book useful, as it gives really practical strategies for dealing with all sorts of bosses not just bullies. If your need is urgent write back on this blog and I will put in some strategies or do get hold of the book.- all the best Jill
