    Boss Sleeps During The Day

Big problem he's the boss and owner of a small company I work for. Been here over twelve years. He's extremely critical, not a rational bone in his body, hypocritical, judgemental, sleeps in his office sometimes up to four hours a day. He expects you to do things exactly the way he wants them done with one small problem. He won't tell you how he wants it done. If I quit, he'll make sure that I don't work in this area. He's got enough people fooled into thinking he's a great guy. Unfortunately, they don't see and hear what I do every day. Anyway, I do want to find another job. I'd like to finish my engineering degree and move to Florida but how do I deal with him in the meantime? Thanks in advance.

Reply: I had a boss who did the same kind of thing. I'd tell him I wasn't a mind reader. It didn't help. He also yelled alot and was very abusive. I became the scape goat, so be careful. Try doing the work the way you think he wants it done. Get it done fast (especially if the work hours for you are limited for each project) and hope for the best. Some bosses will at least tolerate you (meaning not yell as much or give you as bad of a review) not doing quite what they want if it is done fast. Otherwise, cross your fingers. I don't have any better solution.

Reply: My boss doesn't yell, but I do get these terrible attitudes thrown at me for things other people have done and I had absolutely nothing to do with. So I know what being a scape goat feels like. He, unfortunately, is un-pleasable. If I get a project completed quickly and efficiently, that still wasn't fast or efficient enough. If I made him $500K, he'll ask why it wasn't more. There's an article on the main page about narccisism (sp). I think it pretty well describes him. It's making me dread going to work every day and doing a job I used to enjoy.
