When is favoritism illegal? I understand no employment law are being broke when a manager takes her favorite employees out to lunch often or invites them to her personal social events without ever asking anyone else who is employed by her. Even when they make higher salaries than the others, how can you prove it based upon favoritism?

Reply: well, typically, companies have rules in place to prevent managers from socializing with employees outside of work, but as we all know, no one follows those. I think favoritism is a negative issue when they are giving the same people better hours and more money. That is when it is probably crossing a line.

Reply: A boss should be unbiased and not fraternize with their subordinates outside of work. By doing so causes dissention among the workers which leads to no good. Fighting, bickering and gossiping... although good intention but bad overall.
