i work at a doctors office & his wife comes in a few days a week to pay the bills & pulls the office managers strings. i was told if she doesnt like you, she will make sure you quit (no lay-off, no firing--she enjoys sitting back watching as her puppet does what she says.i was there 6 months when i questioned someting about insurance & it set off a time bomb. it has been harassing ever since. because there isnt a HR, i have no place to go with a problem. how do i look for another job so soon & explain why. i think she would hurt my chance at another job (6 people told me she had done this before to others. i have worked for 30 years & have never been in a situation like this. i am weekly pulled into the managers office & put down, called names, etc. the worst part is i really like my job & the people i work with

Reply: Even though you don't have an HR department, you can still contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and discuss your situation with them by getting some counseling that is free. I would suggest to see them to see if you have a case. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 does more than go to bat for people based on race or gender. It includes all sorts of discriminatory type of behavior. Your situation may fall into one of these categories. Another plus for you is the fact that this has happened for you. There is strength in numbers. I would recommend contacting your local EEOC office and see if you've got a case. They will tell you the best way to proceed. Good luck and keep us informed as to how it turns out!

Reply: that's very very comforting. things are getting worse, like I was told they would. your advice comes at a great time. thank you very much. my reputation means more than a job, but she is trying to wear me down & even one of the other doctors has notice & said that he would be a reference for me....that's how sad it is.
