    Bosses from Hell

How do you deal with a boss who is Jekyll and Hyde all in one? One minute she is very nice, the next minute she is biting your head off. It's very hard to deal with this on a daily basis. Part of me thinks she doesn't know how she sounds when she talks to us; part of me also thinks the power of her position has gone to her head.

Reply: I have a boss who is all sweetness and light to your face and then turns around and tears you down in front of other employees.

Reply: Have a talk with her and say "When you do or say this. . . .I feel . . . ." She may just not know how she sounds or how she makes you feel. Be aware, however, that she may not be able to change and what you will have to accept is that she means well and is just trying to get her job done, not that she is mad at you or upset with you. Sometimes people can't pigeonhole their emotions - when they are upset, it shows in every transaction. Give her a break - have a talk. If it doesn't change, then you know she's not willing to take some of the responsibility for your relationship and you may just have to walk away from the job if it bothers you that much.

Reply: my boss is just like that. people in other departments tell me they think my boss is bi-polar. i have learned not to listen to the rantings and to keep my head down. i have also advised my boss that i am seeking another position within our company-i have a job almost lined up!!
