what do I do with a boss that shows favoritism and I'm not one of them

The favoritism in my department is very blatant and obvious to everyone. If you're not on the A list, you can do nothing right! How do I work in an environment like this? What can I do?

To answer your first question, it's very difficult to work in such an environment.
As for your second, it depends on the boss. Is he/she usually approachable and open to differing points of view? If so, the direct approach is always best. Having ben a "boss: for the past 24 years, i can tell you that it's hard not to have favorites for a variety of reasons. Still, it's not good to do that and any good boss would like that pointed out.
If the boss is too old style management, then I suggest you go to the HR department and speak with someone. You can also consider going to the boss of your boss.
Good Luck! |

Agreed. Your best bet, if your boss is open to critisim, is to suggest that you have heard comments from others in the office that suggests the boss has been showing favortism. This can be a good approach, because, not only are you informing the boss of the problem, but your not directly suggesting that you agree with the consensus.
However, If he/she is like my boss, they will NOT be open to critisism. If you can, go to a person of EQUAL RANK as you boss. They will most likey be able to break the news to your supervisor, without your boss risking being reprimanded(which may backfire on you). |

Here's advice that I got once: "See what the A-listers are doing - and do that too!"
I don't know if it works. I quit that horrid job without trying. :) |
