I used to be a divisional manager in my previous job, and when i applied to my new job, i asked about career path. my new boss told me that there will be manager positions, there is great opportunities for me here, etc etc

within the 1st month i have started, i asked him what my goals are- to get to the next level. he said, just learn the job now, we will circle back later. a few months passed by, and a brought up the topic to find out what my goals are..he told me i am on track , we can discuss goals on mid year review..so far sounds nrmal right?

next thing you know, he was a completely different persn in my mid year review. he was abusive. he said i keep bringing this topic up- but i have been here 9 months, and it is my right to discuss my career path. he even lost his control and said, do you think so and so would even report to you? i said, i cant seem to think of why.he stared at me. he said well, you need to watch your approach with your peers, i asked for an example to understand, he said he doesnt have any..

following week, a corworker was out of the offce ( she didnt come in because same boss hammered her the day before) , so i wanted to help to complete her project since she would be out for 10 days. i sent an e mail to my boss- expecting praise- and said, i will work on his since she is out and this is due today. he wrote back and i quote " how did you decide to lead this " and ccd other co workers on the same e mail. I was shocked . i walked into his room and explained him that i was just tryng t get the jb done, and he started to talk abut how my coworker checed out, she should have complete this, etc..long story short, i dont know how to deal with this jerk! there is so many people cant stand working for him, but with how he economy is, people are scared to go to hr. HE IS VERY ABUSIVE TO DEAL WITH and sexist, favors men all the time. I try to stand strong and act like this is ok at work, dont have the guts to confront him. i need my job

any ideas on how to deal?

Reply: This seems like an issue for ethics and compliance or even hr and if you have the email that proves he sent it to others via cc that's your proof that he went out of the boss realm and into the bully realm.

Reply: I did not read the full entry- BUt- the first paragraphs told me enough. You do not buck your boss in the first month - or ever. Basically- you messed up . You work for a comapany- they pay you to do XY& Z- Learn to do XY&G well. that is your job - if you want a paycheck- Growth and worth in the job market comes from 2 things (1) learig your job and doing it well and (2) getting along with the higher ups. This is so elementary.
