    My boss ignores my requests!

I have been at my job for about a year now! I think i am a very good employee. I never call off, i'm always on time, an i always stay over an help out when needed or not needed for that matter! My problem is, that for most of that year i have been on a 10 hour night-turn shift an i've gone to my boss on 3 occasions within 4 months stating that i don't want that shift! There is always an excuse as to why i'm not getting it. There are 6 girls that have the same job title as me an are lower seniority that know how to work that shift. why there isn't a rotation is beyond me! I've completely had it! I don't want to quit but this seems to be the only option! please someone give me advice! I am at my wits end!! Help!!

Reply: Your other option is to say what you just said to us to your boss: "I'm the best employee you have. I've come to you several times asking if I can get a different shift, at least on a rotation basis. If I don't get that now, I'm going to quit" Either your boss will wise up, or you'll quit like you'd probably end up doing anyway. At least this opens up the possibility of getting what you want. If you really want to be sneaky, ask for a raise at the same time. Either you'll get the raise and the shift change, or your boss will say no and you can say "Well at least give me the shift change" - this will suddenly make this seem like a great deal to your boss who just got out of giving you a raise, and you'll be more likely to get what you wanted. Pretty standard tactic - proven to be effective.

Reply: I just spent about 8 months with the same thing, I had brought up a few ongoing concerns of mine, in every way I could think of to try to get some response, yes or no, anything at all...then the day I thought I was actually going to get some feedback or reaction, I got fired. I was told the entire year I worked there, that I was the best they'd seen, so this came as a huge shock. No notice, no warning, nothing but praise and ignoring my very relevant concerns. I got 2 weeks severance pay, and a great reference letter, but they said I was unsuitable and suggested I have a personality disorder! I guess nobody had ever thought of these concerns before, so my head must be "unsuitable". When I asked why they had ignored their own policies regarding termination, they said policies are subjective. Unfortunately, unless you're in a union or are federally governed, this kind of thing is a harsh reality. I'll update you more after my meeting with a lawyer. I got fired so I gotta fire back! Good luck with your journey, let us know what happens next.
