I arrived to the airport alone, so I was separated from the group. While sitting at my terminal waiting to board, I noticed that my boss had taken a seat near me and was spying on my, which I felt was suspicious. He and his partner were pretending to not see me, but I had taken a very visible seat so that I would see them arrive. I immediately called a relative to inform them of my travel plans, and exact names of people in attendance. I also went over to him and acknowledged his presence. After landing in Detroit, it was dark and I noticed how vulnerable of a position I was in. These guys had one agenda and that was to steal my business and to discredit me in front of my clients. So I played it safe and kept quite, not trying to create any ripples. There's tons of dark fields in Detroit traveling from the airport... We traveled to a restaurant and the racist banter began to commence, with my boss saying the only plus about the restaurant was the black waitress that he had serving him, in so many words. Next day, he basically humiliated me during the client meeting by making disrespected comments and snatching my business cards off the table, replacing them with another young lady from the office. Following the meeting, I questioned his actions, and immediately he admitted that they steal everything. It was his intent to "Take My Power." I can accept being reprimanded due to not meeting performance expectation, but to "Take My Power" sounded a bit more sinister in intent. Next day, we went to lunch and he begin discussing nooses and physical torture at the table. I immediately made my displeasure known about the topic, as I was the only black in our party. He could care less, so I excused myself and went outside. After returning from this horrible trip, I began receiving requests from clients, so I began working again. I did complain about his behavior to another partner. After defending myself against a co-worker who had told me to Shut the Fuck Up, and who had previously said that blacks should smile in order to be seen, and whom had previously given me a verbal slashing, I was called into the office and told they no longer needed my services. Of course, this had been their original plan. Push me out through intimidation, so that they could walk away with the book of business. I would love to hear about stories of similar origin and how they were resolved ultimately. No One should ever have to experience of being fired unjustly with one week to rent being due.

Reply: By the way, thanks for your reply to my situation. I don't really have much prior experience in dealing with horrible workplaces, but based on your situation, I would definately check out www.undercoverlawyer.com. (If nothing else, it's free.) Do you have everything that you mentioned well-documented enough as to the exact time that it happened? You certainly have a case. Now that you are unemployed, I would at least investigate it or talk to an attorney that you think you could trust. Other than that, I wish you the best of luck for getting the next job that you deserve. Use your best resources outside of the loser company.
