Toxic boss is the HR Director

I currently hold a position as an HR Technician for my organization. Both my boss and I were promoted at the same time. My boss was promoted from deputy finance director to Finance & HR Director. She has no experience in HR, and definitely does not have any people skills. She is your typical bully boss. She is controlling, she does not listen, she is always right, when she makes mistakes she blames her employees instead of taking responsibility for mistakes, she does not encourage or support us, she does not mentor her employees. I am new to HR and was hoping to come into this position to learn - but instead of learning what to do, I learn what not to do because nothing I do is right. I find comfort at home, with my son, reading books, and visiting with friends. But going to work is becoming more and more difficult. My only motivation is that I am lucky I have a job - so I should complain, right?

Reply: Unfortunately, many people think that HR is one of those profesions that requires nothing but a friendly face and attitude. If you want to be taken seriously by a true HR person (someone with at least a masters' degree and 10+ years' HR experience) then you need to move to a larger (1000+ employees) and more professional company.
