    Uncomforatable at work now...

I have been with my company for 6 mths now. When hired I was told opportunities were coming up and I might just get a promotion within a short period of time. I deal with customer service and our workplace group is only around 10 people as I work in a retail store which is part of the bigger company. I was told by my boss early on that they were not happy with the younger group there that worked nights. They had tried talking to them about things they were doing on the job such as using their cell phones for personal calls during work time, using profanity with customers on occasion and generally not working while at work. One person was a assistant manager but was not up to par in the bosses eyes and I was told I would probably get that position myself. I was told that I should not take directions from this manager either. My boss told me she wanted them to be watched over on their shifts which was evening work for the most part so I worked that shift even though I had informed her that I would rather have day shift as I have a family. In training I got a few days a wk for the first month or so. The pay was not horrible but certainly not good and I felt that maybe after some people left that I might get better pay and a better position. I did this shift for around 4 months but then the evening group wasn't up to change for the manager and they certainly weren't going to take directions from me either. It seemed as if the assist manager and my boss had worked things out and the assist manager started working mainly days but I still had mainly nights. Later I found out she had taken a second job during the night. I mentioned again wanting to work the day and afternoon shifts but was told there were none available at the time for me. I was not happy with mostly evening hours and no pay to go with it. I finally decided that I had enough with evening work (got a day 1 to 3 times a month only) at this point and told my boss due to my home situation I could not work more than 2 evenings a wk and would really love some day work. I was told again no day work at that time and I also got the hint that she didn't like me complaining about this as I was hired to work this shift (in her words). NO I wasn't, I was hired for some day, some afternoon and some evenings and I told her this was what was said when I took the position. She said in a huff that she was going to hire a assistant manager for these hours then. She did also! she also got rid of the people she felt were giving her grief. She used to say she never fired people, they did it themselves as she took them off the schedule and they simply get the hint. The new assistant manager is working mainly evening hours but does get some days, also gets the title and probably gets the pay also. Fine by me, as she has the responsibility too, but I am still working nights now under the new assistant manager and she is giving me more weekend and evening now too. I asked her during our talk to take me off the schedule except for 2 evenings a week until she had some day work but I am still at work at least 3 to 4 nights a week. I am not sure as to what I should do here now. I hate my hours for my pay and I cannot say I like my boss after this either. I feel as if she tried to pit me against my coworkers, then got mad when i didn't want the hours of evening but didn't want to give me the managers position for whatever reason to work those evening hours. I would have had no problem working the night hours and some daytime on Sat and Sun like I have did for the last 6 months, if I had gotten a title, and more money to do so. Now I want day time hours and even though I have asked her for this or for her to remove me from the schedule altogether after two evenings or work if nothing else is available and she will not do that either it seems. It doesn't bother me to be taken off schedule except two days and I think she knows that so will not do it, just as she lowers others hours to make them leave, she is keeping me on the nights IMO to get me to go now. I really can't get why I have no or very few days but several people have come in after me that do get many more day shifts than I!! I have tried talking to her about this problem, now, what else can be done other than quitting the job? Any helpful suggestions appreciated!

Reply: Still working 3 to 4 nights a week. assistant mg was supposed to work night also but she and the cashier/sales associate are both working more daytime hours than I. I haven't gotton even one comment from here either. I am actively looking for another job now. I seen the workup for this wk and the new asm is getting four days, one night, the new sales asscociate is getting 2 night, and 3 days and me...... well I get four night inucluding Sunday " they are now tapping into my wkend night" and even thought I said I can work Friday nights to get my quota, I got Sunday too and three other night this wk. I am beginning to wonder if my being the only one person with my racial background working at this store has anything to do with all this. She did mention in a recent conversation with me and another girl that she didn't hire us because I was " of said color" and said the exact same to my co-worker who is also another race than all the store. I am hanging still, applied other places but I hate to leave a job that I basically like because of all the crap/peyton place goings on there....
