    Puppet Manager

In my office we have a Manager who is manipulated by a Senior Staffer to the point can not function with out this staff member present and is a Manager by title only.

The Manager is reactive not proactive, indicisive, plays staff against each other, projects guilt and is self centred when dealing with staff needs/issues. The Manager deals out favours to select staff for example: Leave, RDO's and delegation of 'nicer' duties. Select staff are generally those who have flattered ego or simply manipulated Manager theirselves. The Senior Staffer has that much influence over Manager and Office that if said some one or something is not liked, staff follow either out of self preservation or with out realisation they have been 'bullied' into thought. Those few who have dared to challenge Senior Staffer have been made Office Outcast and in a few cases have been pushed out of their employment by Senior Staffers actions.

The Manager allows the Senior Staffer free run as can not undertake role with out this member of staff, Senior Staffer carries Manager through role as has the 'power' of a Manager with out the responsibility. Head Office are only worried about results and bottom line so turn a blind eye. Both Manager & Senior Staffer are mature aged with backgrounds related to social services.

The irony of this is we work in Employment Services and part of role is to mentor & advocate fair employment for our clients.

Lucky for me I am moving on in very near future and next role will be interviewing my Boss :)
