    Bully boss

I recently started a position in a medical office working for a complete bully! I tried very hard to always be positive and smiling and saying "Yes ma'am" to everything she asked but nothing worked. The office atmosphere was awful! Patients complained about her and the other staff member was miserable and voiced it although she begged me not to tell the manager. I think she was afraid of her. During my 3rd week of employment, she called me on the telephone after work telling me I wasn't a good fit and not to come back! She said one of the reasons she didn't want me there was that I had asked her if she knew the name of a patient who had come in earlier - she said that offended her that I would ask her that. (I'm still confused.) However, I truly think she is a very unhappy person all around. She is very overweight, didn't really take good care of herself, and she always seemed angry at everything. I feel sorry for her to be honest - but another staff member in that office told me that this bully didn't like the girl before me because the physician's wife chose the girl. And the physician's wife also chose me.... So I think I was doomed from the beginning. It's very uncomfortable being caught up in a power struggle between 2 women. The physician's wife had made several comments during the interview but I didn't catch it. Afterwards, however, those comments make sense. I was at both previous jobs for 10 years each and left both on very good terms with excellent references! If you work for and are fired by a bully, just know that some jobs are not right for some people and don't take it personal. Some bosses, especially a bully, can't be made happy regardless.

Reply: I too have a boss that is a "bully". I started working for this company like 5 months ago, and at first everything was ok. Then I got sick, missed a little work, and it all began. My boss has belittled me, verbally attacked me when others were not around, gives me dirty looks of disgust and has used foul language. I am to the point that I have withdrawn from people, and depression has set in. I am ...for the lack of better words..scared to even be at work with her. I don't know what to do about this, but if it keeps up I know it will come down to one of two things, Me getting fired or me quitting. Right now this is the only job that I have, I am putting in other applications, and hoping for the best. I just don't know if I can deal with they discussed looks, verbal and psychological crap from this woman. If anyone has any sort of advise...I am willing to listen !

Reply: Well, it's over.........went in to work yesterday morning and was broadsided. She had filed a complaint of theft on me. OMG!! I stood there and watched the district LP guy and her walk in the door. So I got canned for 1.64 bottle of soda. That was unconscionably picked and sipped on, then I purchased it. You figure it out...gonna fight this to the end, and I am not alone in this, because she has done this before...2x she has "targeted" people there.Don't know what to really do though. Pursue this to the end ? knowingly that I no longer work there. Or just let her do this again to someone else?? Looking for a job right now...trying to feel hopeful.
