    Was I illegally fired?

Up until the middle of this past November, I worked at a daycare, which my aunt and my grandma own. I had no problem working with family, I had no problem with the workplace at all until this past August. The problems started when an employee started slacking on her work. But I wouldn't say her lack of work was entirely her fault. One of my bosses (my aunt) and this employee started getting close, going out for drinks together, that kind of thing. They developed a friendship that nothing could stand in the way of, not even work. My aunt would let this employee not do her job, so she could go in my aunt's office and they could mess around on a laptop and talk. Well after months of dealing with this, and seeing so many things go on that weren't right in a daycare, I decided to try to talk about it with my aunt. She did not like it one bit. She got very defensive, angry, and even started turning the tables on me, and saying things I had done wrong. Well I ended up calling my mom and tellin her she needed to come get me. When she showed up some not so nice words were exchanged between her and my aunt. Well about three days later I was told I had lost my job through a text message my grandma had sent me. And at first she couldn't even determine if I had quit of if I had been fired. Then she made up reasons for why I was fired. Is this legal?

Reply: yeah, thats illegal! a text? no warnings? no gross misconduct? do you have any documentation to back you up though, emails even? its a tricky situation though - you'll probably have to choose between some reallllly akward family get-togethers and getting your own back?

Reply: This was perfectly legal. While it's an unfortunate and unprofessional practice, there is no law that states that employers must give warning(s) before firing employees.

Reply: their might not be any law that states that employer mst give notice before fire'ing an employee but!!... they then must have good reasons (not doing your job etc) and if you are to be fired then you are entitled to haveing redundancy pay, or a working notice... these are leagl requierments in the law.

Reply: I was fired after one week and half on the job. I was told "afer reviewing my performance, I am not fit for this position, and I looked I never worked such a position" I was never evaluated or given my objectives and told what my expectations are. I worked the same field more than 10 years and I do have what it takes to do the job. I beleive the guy I was shadwing with for the 1st week reported bad thing about me, even though I did nothing wrong? Do I have any legel rights to sue this company? I was never given any written note as to why i got fired. besies, they did an extensive drug and background check on me and everything went well.. thnx
