    write ups...

I had been written up at work for making an inquiry with a company that was doing a promotion involving rewards for said employees who could answer a few simple questions about tobacco products. My problem is that when I mentioned to my boss that I had made an inquiry, she demeened me and accused me of insubordination, even though I do have the audio proof of inquiry. This incedent happened near the end of last year(dec.2009), and she did not present my write up to me, as well as 2 other witnessed false statements until the middle of Feb of this year(2010)..what I want to know is--how long does an employer have to present you with a written notice?

Reply: There are no laws dictating when or even if write-ups should be done. While many reputable management schools say a write-up should be done within a few days of the incident, there are no laws regulating the practice, and employers are legally free to dispense write-ups whenever they feel like it.
