    Bad resignation letter

I have been with the company for 1 Year on June 3rd. If I wait I might get my 2 week vacation pay. However I am in the HR department and have seen many unethical practices starting with my boss. Unfair treatment, hiring, terminations, gazillion warnings, etc. She even told me to post my position with my job functions. I have given instructions to do xyz, I do it and then she tells me she or upper management did not approve and well there goes my first warning. So I really think she wants me out. I want out and want to go back to school but need the unemploymnet benefits and school starts on June 6th. My schedule will conflict with work but my main reason for resigning is my boss and her treatment to other employees. I want to give her a two eeks notice but in order to get unemployment I myst give the reason for unethical practices on my resignation letter. I don't want to shut the door because it is a good company and you never know but I do need the my benefits and vacation pay. What should I do?

Reply: This response is based on you being in the US or Canada. In the US and Canada, you are not legally required to provide your employer with a resignation letter, nor are you required to put your reason for resignation in your resignation letter for UI reasons. UI benefits are not granted to people who resign unless they resign for very specific reasons defined in law - i.e., that they are being abused at work specifically and directly because of their race, gender, religion, age and/or disability. Nothing in your post indicates that your boss is treating you badly for any of these reasons. Finally, UI benefits are not granted to students.
