Employment Discrimination Legal Overview
"Employment Discrimination laws seek to prevent discrimination based on race, sex, religion, national origin, physical disability, and age by employers. There is also a growing body of law preventing or occasionally justifying employment discrimination based on sexual orientation. Discriminatory practices include bias in hiring, promotion, job assignment, termination, compensation, and various types of harassment."

i have worked for a native american casino for the past 11 years. I have always worked the day shift and worked my way up to a supervisory position. I have had perfect attendance for 5 years and work 7 days a week on many occasions. They have recently been harrassing caucasians into quitting and I am now their target. They are demanding I work the evening shift (2:00pm - 10:30pm) even though they know I have a family to tend to in the evening. What are my legal rights when dealing with a sovereign nation? If i quit because I feel I am being harrassed what are my chances for unemployment? I am in the process of filing a grievance against them and have had several meetings with management to try to come to a solution but they are very unreasonable people and their advice is to quit. Both of my immediate supervisors have told them that I am a definite positive to the business and they know that also and admit it. What legal rights do i have? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Report them to the Department of Labor. They absolutely HATE being reported to the labor board. You can make the report annonomous. They will investigate the organization and can go back as much as 4-5 years to find any violations.
Also I'd contact a lawyer to possibly sue them for discrimination and harassment. If you can PROVE what you say- then you may have a case.

My boss is a Christian. He is constantly quoting the Bible to me, and telling me how he is a christian and how that is the way of life, and it is so much better than everyone else. I do not believe in the same beliefs, so I am constantly offended, but do not know how to handle the situation????

Baby boomers job histories are being held against them. Many baby boomers are reaching a stage in their lives where they no longer want the headaches and long hours they have worked in the past. Their financial situations have improved and all they want to do is work a 40 hour job and make at least $10 an hour. Many HR representatives will not even think about hiring them because they say that they are over qualified. These job seekers have a history of being loyal, honest, hard working people and they are being treated like they were trash. The illegal aliens definitely need to be addressed, but this problem facing baby boomers should be the top of the list. Many are being forced to take early retirement and could possibly be out on the street with nothing in the near years to come.
