    Whats up with this situation/ Please advise me.

    Ok, here is the deal. Just started work a month ago and am a temp to hire employee. Thursday evening, things were backing up due to new employee's doing bad work on some manufacturing products. These will have to be reworked and will take lots of time. I asked my employer about it and he said he had it under control. It went on for three days with more bad products every day by a employee. Every day more and more rework. I go to the supervisor and he says he has it under control. Well i found another box that needed rework that we had been finishing. It was messed up. I went to him and said the person doing this would be in shortly and this would go on and more and more bad products produced. He yelled at me and said "Did you not hear me"? Do you not understand what i told you"? Do you not get it?"

    I wasa floored and upset as i am the only person up to my quota at work and work very hard. Dont even go to the bathroom as i am on a timeline to finsih work. I am doing three times the work as everyone else and have my quota every day. I punched out and told him he was a bad supervisor at the end of the shift. Called the plant manager and he said he would talk to supervisor and get his side of the story also. I hate being treated like dirt. Like i am less than a human. Manager never called and human resources said take the day off(friday) until it was worked out. Sounds like i am out of a job or do i go in and stand up for myself. Lots of money is being lost at company because of rework and is so easy to fix and i was just trying to save the company time and money for something that they could fix fast before it got worse and worse. One lady stayed three days and could not do it and was scared to tell the supervisor so she just quit as she could not do the work. She asked me if she shoud go to sup. and i said yes but she said she was scared. Is this normal working conditions for manufacturing plant. Thanks for your time. Would appreciate any response.

    Reply: I used to be a manager at a manufacturing company, until I left for a better position, so I am familiar with the type of situation you are describing. I completely understand where you are coming from, but I'd like to give you some helpful advice. It may not be what you want to hear, but I honestly think it may be helpful to your working relationships in the future. It sounds to me like your boss already knew of the problem. Sometimes managers have a large problem they are faced with that are made up of several parts, some of the parts the employees don't even know about. Perhaps the managers themselves are unable to correct problems because of their own boss, certain rules, bureaucracy, etc and there isn't anything they can do right away to correct a problem. This tends to cause a lot of stress on managers. Then, when an employee keeps coming in and telling them repeatedly about the same problem that they already know about, but are unable to fix for whatever reason, this causes that stress to get out of control. You are right, your boss didn't need to yell at you and belittle you. However, keep in mind that perhaps this issue that you thought was very crucial maybe isn't the biggest problem on your manager's plate right now. You should point out things to your supervisors that need to be changed. But just do it once. By repeating the same thing to them over and over, this makes your boss feel like you are telling them how to do their job, and can cause resentment from your boss, which does you no good. If that faulty product does cause the company you work for to lose money, then it will ultimately be your supervisor's fault, not yours. You did the responsible thing by reporting the issue, but then let it go and let the person in charge handle the issue. If they are incapable of doing this, eventually this will be discovered by his/her boss, and remedied. Do the job you were hired for, but also let the managers do their job.
