    Difficult Situations-Part II

So i'm at my latest job, and again i have a female boss. I was very careful this time, have my guard up (one thing i learned) and took particular attention on the office politics and so forth. So here's the situation: Everyone on the team is female and they all are in a catfight with one another; basically they are trying to get each other fired. I'm caught in the middle and they all are trying to continously find out who my allegiance is to and by not giving them any indication i seemed to have become the prime target once again. The situation is aggravated even worse by having "married" men who talk to me and wave at me in the office, and i know talking is not bad but THESE GUYS have absolutely nothing to do with my project, like they are in different sectors of the building and they come by my cube to talk. It's harmless right now, but they take time away from my work and my crazy female team is noticing this. So how do i handle this new situation?? The boss and the team underneath her are at war and everyday is a struggle to get anything done since i'm not going to take part in this ridiculousness. Heh, i could always quit and marry a doctor, but i just had this naive notion that women can be happy in the work place just as they can be at home.

Reply: Hi, I know what you mean about politics. I've been in the working world for 5 years now, 2 different jobs. There are ALWAYS politics unfortunately...however, there are a few rules you can follow to try to protect yourself: 1. NEVER say anything negative about any of the coworkers or boss at work-no matter how much you "trust" the listener. Find someone outside of work to complain to. (I know this is easier said then done, I struggle with it!!) 2. Come across naive to the politics if you must to stay out of it. If they think you're "too nice" they can't fault you for that and they might leave you alone. 3. Nose down and get the work done 4. Don't participate in after hours activities. Just tell them you don't drink/party/whatever. It's just not a good idea to mix work and fun 5. Never share you political views Good luck
