Any advice for working with family??

Several years ago my sister called me and told me she was starting her own collection agency and since I wasn't working (my choice) and had the knowledge to do her bookkeeping, would I come and work for her. I got the whole sob story about how she couldn't afford to pay me much, while I watched her take home 4 times what I was taking home and she hardly ever came to the office! To make it worse she brought on my father, my brother and her husband. She has twice since fired my father, fired my brother, and just happened to given her husband another raise. What a surprise. She is next to impossible to please and even when you think you are doing what she wants it isn't enough. Like today for example, I gave her the reports that I give her partner every day and she flips out that it is not what she asked for and she doesn't care how I do it as long as she gets what she wants. I ask her what it is that she wants and I get a description of exactly what I had just handed her and when I tried to explain that she had what she wanted in her hand and she screamed that she didn't want to know about Quickbooks and why couldn't I just give her what she asks for. God forbid she shut her mouth and actually look over what I had given her! So basically I spend my day being berated by my sister aka boss and I'm not supposed to say anything about her horrible behavior because she is the boss. It makes me sick. I am inches away from telling her to pay back the $68,000 in loans for the company in MY name and find someone else to beat daily! If it wasn't for her kids and the fact that I love them like my own, I would have quit two years ago.

Reply: Well, as difficult as the situation may be, I would consider just biting the bullet and say I no longer wish to work here. Regardless if it is your sister, you do not have to take emtional abusive behavior from anybody. If it were me, I would just give my notice and request that my investment be returned within a reasonable amount of time or consider legal avenues. Travelling this road will not be easy, but in the long run, you will respect yourself much more than today.
