Boss with Pet Employee

How do you deal with a boss who openly tells another employee that they are the best - while you never get told anything like that! I mainly ignore it, but sometime it is hard when you hear it on a daily basis. Now, you may think I'm jealous, but I'm not. I just feel that you should praise an employee for good work, but to the extent that she does, does not make for a good work environment! Sadlady

that's tough. sounds like he/she doesn't appreciate you like they should so i would recommend looking for another job but first asking your boss in nice way, hey i'm feeling underappreciated and don't understand why..perhaps you can help me understand it. good luck. |

I am in the same situation. I usually try to ignore it. I also went above my bosses head and told the big boss that there may be some favoritism in the office and that causes anger among the ranks. I'm not sure if it will help since I just brought it to his attention. Maybe keeping a log of the behavior just to have backup |

Oh my do we work at the same place??? I have the same exact problem going on where I work. There is 3 of us there and I FEEL like the 3rd wheel. I feel like I am always left out of important conversttions, desisions, and everything. I feel like they have a click and I'm an outsider. Our boss is male and the it's her and me (also female). I DEFINATELY do not think they have a thing going on, they are just pushing me out and they don't want me involved. She does no wrong make me sick!!!!!!! |

I, too, work with a "boss's pet." I am regularly left out of conversations that deal with my work; my co-worker can do no wrong (and I, of course, can do nothing right). My co-worker treats me like she is my overseer and regularly talks down to me. She even goes through my work bins and re-prioritizes my work after I have already done so. The boss feigned surprise that there was any conflict whatsoever between us. |

Perhaps you can see these two people - the boss and the co-worker - as two children. You have the task and challenge of somehow getting them to change their behavior without forcing it. Perhaps they have no incentive to, or aren't aware of the need to, or don't know how to, or don't care even if you told them. Depends on the type of boss/personality you're working with (hopefully not the last one). You may think some more about this and figure out, you really don't like this boss overall. It's good to take care of your feelings too. I'm sure you are feeling down that it's happening, out of your control but I hope you any part of you is not in self-doubt saying, Wow - am I just not that good? Don't stay in those thoughts... Good luck |

That is really good advice. I have never thought of the situation that way. Sad to say, I think I am in the last place - the "don't care." Because I was the newcomer to the group, I did have those moments of self-doubt, but all it took was reviewing my resume as I started the process of looking for another job to see all that I have accomplished and that I don't have to settle for this environment. I know the pasture isn't always greener, but surely it can't be all quack grass and weeds, either. |

Yes! You go! There's just gotta be a healthier environment out there. And the knowledge you have now is like money in the bank - it can be drawn upon as needed in your choices going forward - like whom to work with next?
Faith is on your side. |

I feel like I am the 3rd wheel too where I work. I work with this 2 guys that are friends at work. They have long breaks together, play poker 2 to 3 times a day at 30 minutes each. They go to suppliers to get materials and I can't go because I am allergic to cigarette smoke and the boss' pet smokes in our company van. They are major slackers and you would not guess that our department is the "lean systems". The way they abuse break times and work hours especially on weekend when pay is time and a halp...and these 2 are supposed to be the implementers of LEAN.
Other people have noticed and told the big boss, but it goes to one ear and out the other. The boss is friends with the one guy, so he can not do anything wrong. I am about ready to call someone really higher up to look at the situation!!
I quit this job, went back to my old job because I could not stomach the abuse and waste they do. Times are tough, need to stay competitive and here are these 2 guys wasting money away AND THEY ARE LEAN IMPLEMENTORS.
WHAT A JOKE!!! |
