horrible passive-aggressive boss and cuck up coworker!

I work in a very small office with 4 people. My boss is such a beast! She is so passive aggressive. Everytime you make a mistake she never really tells you what you did wrong but makes little comments outloud to everyone and them she corrects them herself instead of letting you see the mistake and fix it or she will instantly yell out-"you did this wrong" but again won't give it back to you to fix or she will mumble under her breath how much you screwed up and when you ask her what's going on she just says nothing. She refuses to update any of our systems. We are still working with a DOS program and using a pegboard system. Whenever anyone suggest that she changes she freaks out on them. We just got a new employee that is such a suck up too. The microwave is right beside my bosses desk and the co worker jumped out of her seat to grab my bosses coffee for her-even though it was within arm reach of my boss!!!! She is always telling my boss how good she looks or how funny she is. It's driving me crazy! I can't escape it. I like my job and everyone else there but it keeps getting worse and worse. I have gone to the higher ups and it fixes the problem for a few days. HELP!!! Any advice? Thanks for letting me vent

Reply: Got a suggestion - when she yells out-"you did this wrong" and mumbles under her breath etc., think of her as a big steam engine that just at that moment when she does that is letting off a cloud of hot steam! that's her immature, undeveloped/unsophisticated/ or [expletive] way of letting off steam building and building inside her [imagine her insides- uck!] It's directed at you cos that's whose physically around. Sadly, it really is not about you, and that's partly what's sad. I think we all want things to be about us, and to be nice...hope this helps a little! or think of her as a bobblehead and her head's just bobbling.

Reply: I work for the same kind of nit-picking micro manager. Problem is, he's also an alcoholic and seldom shows up to work before 11:00AM (he and his wife own the business and she's always there). Most of the time, he arrives at 11:55AM and expects all of us to hang around through lunch and update him on whats happening. He also insists that he knows Quickbooks and has totally trashed the program (which was the reason I was hired). How I handle him is to not say anything negative to avoid confrontations, just do what he asks, and remind myself that I'm getting the same amount of $$$, no matter what. Everyone in the office is on to his mood swings, rantings and negatve comments, and we all tend to ignore them. We also take exactly one hour for lunch...from the time he allows us to leave. He wonders why no one is in the office to answer the phone at 1:30PM...duh! Just remind yourself that you're a professional at what you do, do it to the best of your ability, and don't allow your bosses attitiude to impress on your own. It's only a job!

Reply: kittykill, we need your input: emarie again. Would you go to the Employee loyalty link, read the comments, and please comment on the attitude of that guy...people here are NOT talking about "warm fuzzie" being needed. It's just like Aretha says: R E S P E C T Tell your other friends here to go to that site, too. He is ridiculing us for not being true professionals about our "business transaction" and basically calling everyone here a big baby. I think he's due for a smackdown. He's entitled to his views but he represent corporations, and sucking up to them is his livelihood. No compassion for what people here have gone through.
