People who work for a church, synagogue,or nonprofit group expect that their manager, minister, or boss should be an expression of the same good ideals that define their institution or organization. When your boss turns out to be a bully, it is a different situation than when one works for a for-profit. Such employees are torn between doing good deeds and escaping attacks from the boss. Have others experienced such problems?

Reply: People are people no matter where they work, and in my experience, I have found that many people are promoted into management positions without having management training first. Many people have had bosses who were bullies, and they as a result think that's how bosses are supposed to behave. So, without proper training to get this idea out of their heads, when they're promoted to boss-like positions, they will bully their subordinates. This happens in every organization, including nonprofits and religious organizations. It's just the way it is, and it won't change until organizations understand that management skills training and certification should be a requirement for anyone in a position of authority over others.

Reply: Look, priests and ministers molest kids, use the collection plate money to pay lawyers to defend these perverts, Bishops moves these pedophiles around the country to avoid prosecution...Screwed up people are everywhere. In fact, in my experience the more a person speaks about how holy they are or about religion and charity and all that, the less likely they are to be truly spiritual. Those who speak do not know and those who know do not speak. Go after these employers the way you would anyone. Where I live the Bishops came out with a letter that showed churcvhes were bad employers; that they paid less in benefits, salary, and time off. They expected their employees to sacrifice financially for "the cause" and didn't care that some of their workers were eligible for food stamps. Often real bullies andself-righteous SOBs work in these areas. Forget their religion or ostensible charitible feelings. If they abuse, they are just like the rest of the abusers out there, only hiding behind their smug religiosity.
