It really is possible to just quit!

I just quit - gave my notice last night and it was accepted today. I'll be on vacation for a week, then finish up in January. I feel excited and glad it's finally happening (it was coming for awhile but I am stubborn... It's real scary the prospect of losing the income. As miserable as I was, I was earning income. But the income comes back eventually. For me, the toll on me emotionally was damaging and I finally got the courage to just quit. Thanks for this space!

I did that.
And I don't regret it to this day.
But, with that said, it's something that you need to think through carefully and clearly. Try to keep the pain and other emotional junk from making your decision, without looking at all sides of the situation.
In my case, I was almost 50 and had a mid-to higher level executive position in a well-known organization. I had been responsible for as many as 400 employees in our business unit.
My boss was a tyrant; the typical in-your-face humiliator in public and in front of my employees. A guy that got his jollies by labeling long-experienced, professional, highly educated employees as incompentents. Taking glee in pressuring his top people into working consistent 12 to 16 hour days and then shaming them when they had any personal commitments.
After nearly 7 years, I found an out and took it; shocking everyone. However, it took me over two years to find another job and with over a 40% pay cut and a job I could have done almost 20 years ago.
Was my decision right? Yes. I couldn't continue to look at myself while working with such an evil human being. But, am I completely happy because of my decision? Absolutely not.
Just understand the consequences. |

METOO and HADENUFF:
emarie again. Would you go to the Employee loyalty link, read the comments, and please comment on the attitude of that guy...people here are NOT talking about "warm fuzzie" being needed. It's just like Aretha says:
R E S P E C T
Tell your other friends here to go to that site, too. He is ridiculing us for not being true professionals about our "business transaction" and basically calling everyone here a big baby. I think he's due for a smackdown. He's entitled to his views but he represent corporations, and sucking up to them is his livelihood. No compassion for what people here have gone through. |
