Reply: No it's not right, in fact it seems like a pretty intolerable situation. However, I'm not sure what you can do about it without seeming unprofessional (and sinking to your boss' and coworker's levels) and/or without getting yourself into hot water. You could tell your boss' wife about it, however I don't think this would get you a raise, in fact it might get you fired (and unfortunately it would be a legal termination although if you're in Canada you would be entitled to some termination pay). Eight years at one job is a very long time these days (in fact this might be why your sleazy boss is putting off your raise - he may be saying to himself "this employee's been hear for eight whole years putting up with all this s*** so he/she will probably continue to work here no matter what") and looks mighty impressive on a resume. Why don't you dust it off (your resume I mean) and see if there's something else out there for you that not only pays more but is a more pleasant place to work? If you think this is a viable action, let me know if you have any resume or interview questions, and I'll do my best to help you.

Reply: It is very apparent to me that your boss is very unprofessional...which will lead to a lot of heartburn for anyone working for him. This characteristic will affect all aspects of the working environment...and the list is very long. My advice is to start looking for a new job...however note that I didn't say quit and then look for a job. Remember, it is easier to find a new job when you already have one...i.e., there is less stress. Good luck.
