    motherly boss

How do you deal with a 'motherly' boss? She comes by my office every 20 minutes to ask if I'm doing ok. I don't believe her to be genuine with her words, and I think she has other motives in checking up on me. I have been with my company for quite sometime and know what needs to be done or who I need to contact if I need assistanace. Sometimes that means it is not my boss who can help, but someone else in the department. All my other bosses within this same company, let me loose and we never had any issues. Is there some nice way to tell this lady I don't appreciate being treated like a child?

Reply: Dicey situation and hard to advise on, but here's what I would do/have done: Approach her with the attitude that you share her concern and want to address any problems before they happen. Ask her outright what is it about you or your work that is causing her concern because you aren't used to the attention. She will have to come clean. If she has concerns she will tell you and you go from there. If she doesn't it will make it harder for her to justify her actions on checking up on you (unless that's her personality). If she has ulterior motives, your action should put her on notice. Also, if you believe her intent is shady, you need to document, document, document. Keep a log of every interaction and what was said. It will help you in the long run. You may also want to talk to someone who has worked with her in the past. You may find out that's just the way she is. Hope that helps. Good Luck!
