verbal abuse on the job I just need someone to talk to about this

I am about at my wits end. My boss is so verbally abusive and demeaning towards all her employees, at least three people end up crying in a shift. If that isn't bad enough, if your on the till and it is off at the end of your shift, she deducts the amount from your pay check. She doesn't allow breaks during your shift. Not even a lunch break. Nothing is ever fast enough or good enough. She always tries to make you look stupid in front of other people by letting them know you did something wrong or she will walk around the restaurant and tell people what she thought you did wrong, but... what happenes when she leaves the "humiliation zone" is great, my co-workers and I will high five each other in dicussing the best "humiliation slam" of the day. She is loud and vulgar, says the "F" word in front of young teens that work in the kitchen or prep-area, she uses other foul words too. She was sexually abused by her Father at a very young age so she hates most of the males she and her husband have hired to work in the kitchen & prep-area. She won't hire young men to bus tables or be servers for some man hating reason. Somedays I want to take a pot and hit her in the head with it to wake her up, but instead I humm or whistle to tick her off, or I go, "do dee do" to Yellow Submarine. She made it known to me that my daughter "commited a sin in Gods' eyes" when she committed suicide. My only answer to that was, Yes..she did, but if I new my babygirl she asked God for forgiveness before she hung herself, so I know she entered the kingdom. I am looking for another job just havent found anything yet. Thank You for listening Bailey

Sorry to interrupt, but you have only two choices;
Number one: find another job and forget about past.
Number two: stand for your self, because if you let it go never will change and you’ll be depressed and get sick.
Talk loud about what you feel to him, and see what he will say.
Right now you scare to loose the job and I understand, but of your performance and the great job you need more intelligence from other. Just someone X doesn’t like you, and it means nothing.
Another issue try making friends with higher management and play dump like nothing happen between your boss and you, see what it will happen when the upper level manager ask you go to lunch with them.

Here's my suggestion and that may just work...to an extent. Next time she mentions your daughter's sin, you should say what you normally do and then mention that you appreciate her concern about a girl she never knew. After that, ask her to pray with you! Pray about your daughter with her and pray about all the kinds o abuse everyone endures in their life. It would be a gutsy move and as long as it's sincere, you could affect her positively. At least you'll have planted the seed. Just a passing thought. |

if the no breaks (including a lunch break and your mandatory two 15 minute breaks in an 8 hour shift) , the verbal abuse, vulgarity are accurate. you need to report this lady to your state labor board. what she is doing is illegal in many ways. no breaks is a violation of all the states worker's rights laws. the verbal abuse and vulgarity is grounds for a sexual harrassment suit. this type of boss needs to be reported to the proper authorities and the company cannot punish you for standing up for your legal rights. take all the documentation of these events, witnesses, etc to the labor board or hire a lawyer who specializes in worker's right and/or on the job harrassment. if this is not at all possible, does she have a boss (or her boss's boss). talk to them or write to them because you should not have to put up with this from any manager (or employee), especially a person whom is abusing their power. any business has a bottom line and that is making profit, everyone is expendable (especially if they are affecting productivity). |

p.s. deducting money from your paycheck because your till is short is very illegal because you worked those hours and agreed to that pay, therefore she has not right to steal your money due to a mistake. unless, a court ordered you to pay resitution by garnishing your wages, no employer has the right to take money from your check. you need to report this lady, she should never be allowed to be in a position of power again. |

p.p.s. document everything (especially a copy of your paychecks, she dedected money from along with a copy of your time-card). good luck with this, just reading your story made me so angry. i wander why her boss has not noticed this or at least the owner of the company. |

My boss is the owner!
A husband wife team!
I couldn't tell you which one is worse, the husband or the wife?
Our break policy reads. Breaks are allowed for "5 minutes". Managers are the only one who can okay the break. If you are caught on an unautherized break you will be PUNISHED! I asked several times for a break since I have been employed at this business, they just never seem to find time to give me one.
I don't see anyone else taking breaks either, except for the boss' favorites.
The "Boss" gets upset if you ask a co-worker a question, so most people are afraid to talk in front of them forcing us to whisper behind there backs. I got "caught" asking a co-worker a question this morning and was told by "boss lady" that I only need to ask her, her husband or a manager questions because they have all the correct answers, "no-body" is trained around hear and "no-body" knows what the hell is going on! She asked me specifically not to ask a certain person anymore questions cause she sure as hell doesn't know what she's doing! I just said sure, can do and gave her a quick smile, (I knew the person she was talking about hadn't shown up for work two days in a row and didn't have plans on returning, lucky girl found another job) "boss lady" walked away happy with knowing she affected me, on her way out of the area a rush of adrenalin quickly surged thru me and I started shaking, all I could think of was how to stop this panic attack that was on it's way!
I went into the "walk-in" cooler and stood in there for about a minute wondering what I was doing working for such evil people. This is how "boss lady" started out my day.

WOW, i am so sorry to hear that. looking for another job would be best for you and your health. also, you can always report them to the Better Business Bureau (so at least there is a file on them). I believe it is anonymous. they will look into the complaint and file a report on the complaint. good luck! i am so sorry to hear that you are working for such an evil company with satan at the helm. |

I feel for you,i know people say leave your job,but for some of us that is not so easy, especially in small remote places. Your boss sounds just like my co-worker,it must be hard especially if she works with her husband. What I do at work is document whether it be notes, receipts, conversations.Once my supervisor took my day planner, luckily that was not the place i kept notes on her.I wish you the best,I hope you can find your voice and a way to deal with this.Best of luck to you. |

I am a weekend supervisor of a store. I am starting to recieve phone calls from the employees about the Mon-Friday supervisor and her verbal abusive tendancies. The employees are calling me crying, wondering what they should do. This puts me in a really awkward position. There is a manger, but she doesn't seem to care too much about what goes on as long as the other supervisors continue to do her job for her. I am not sure what I should do now. Can anyone give me some advice? Is there something I can do for these employees? I am in Canada, if anyone is familiar with laws etc, please let me know. |
