    Slack Boss

My boss is hardly ever here. They often call in the morning to say they are sick or going to take vacation that day. They even admitted once to saying "it's easier when I'm not here, right?"

I honestly think that they only know how to do 10% of the job. And they are excellent at that! They should be a consultant in that area.

I know they feel threatened by my over-achievement and success in getting everything done. In fact, I have been encouraged to apply for other jobs since I was told "you have outgrown the position."

This person gives me no feedback (+ or -), so I have learned to do my job totally on my own. Trouble is, they are a people-pleaser and give in to everyone. We work in compliance, so there's a point when she bends on the rules (these are laws in some cases). I know I'm strict, but no one else will be. Even when I request a specific decision (given choices), I have been told "hmm, I don't know, good luck with that!" Urrgghhh!

They have worked here for 20 years!

Any suggestions? Besides looking for a new position?

Reply: I know exactly how you feel. My boss has been here 25 years and slides through his day with almost nothing to do besides make his tee times and plan his exotic vacations around the world while spending his big bonuses. The insane part is that everyone knows it, but nobody is willing to do anything about it. He's universally hated by everyone in the company and nobody wants to deal with him so they call me and I end up doing all the work while he reaps the rewards. His behavior has run off a number of people in our department and he always blames them for having a problem. How do we get our boss' superiors to realize that they need to be removed - and then TAKE ACTION!?!
