Boss who belittles everyone

We have a very intelligent new boss who has mastered the art of vocabulary. This boss loves to hear himself talk, but never really says anything. That is annoying, but can be put up with. But how do we handle the following: -Constantly interrupting employees - even mid-sentence! -Disregarding employees past experience (the bess came in late and had the learn the biz from us). -Keeping us under wraps... all of our ideas, questions, thoughts, suggestions are to go through him... the problem is we never get credit for any of it. We have been told numerous times to do the work, articulate the results and give to him to present to senior management. -For me in particular, my job requires certain specific skills that my boss neither knows alot about nor inquires about. How can he fairly provide a review? -Sounds great, but everything is a concept or far-out anaology, not an answer. We are all frustrated, however we like what we do. And we can't go to HR b/c it has been proven that this will get back to the boss and backfire on us. Any suggestions you have will help a few hard-working and dedicated employees. We sincerely appreciate it!

I don't even know where to begin, I worked for an Oral Surgeon for 3 years. As the office manager I wrote the policy and procedure manual and all other general office manager duties in the doctors office. He would tell me and everyone that I made the rules, but if they didn't agree, he'd tell them don't worry about it do whatever they want. He constantly undermined my authority. He told me on many occasions that we (the women) were nothing but stupid dogs. He played with his genitals during office meetings, when we brought to his attention, he'd say he didn't mean anything by it. He threw scissors in surgery once, thank God they stuck in a box, not us or the patient. He didn't follow OSHA regulations because that caused too much money. He held patients refunds. Billed insurances when he wasn't supposed to. etc etc etc, and I can't get anyone in the Louisiana Dental Association or the Louisiana Department of Insurance to go audit him. I'm suprised he has had a major malpractice case yet.He fired me last April because I blew the whistle on him to his partner, who had no clue of his actions. |

Hi smiley,
Do you think it will help if your entire team prepared a list of complaints and presented it to him unitedly. However tell him he does not have to do anything about the list ..i.e. he alone has nothing to do and that all of you will help him become someone who is more agreeable to work with..he only has to show the inclination to change. And his present behaviour is unacceptable ..it might work |

Thank you prp329 and vivek. I appreciate your past experience adn how it relates and also your suggestions. Normally, preparing a list would sound like a perfect idea, however in this case it probably would only put him on the defense. Perhaps I forgot to mention that he interrupts constantly adn doesn't listen because he is "all knowing". I'm afraid if I do anything that I will end up like prp329, and unfortunately I like what I do and I am a good employee. I am currently looking for other jobs (along with other people I work with). It seems like an impossibility for all of us to be happy working under someone who is constantly doing these things. |
