Not so honest supervisor

At my current job, recently, I was accused of making a major mistake. Not only did I not make this mistake, but it was my supervisor’s mistake. This supervisor has not stepped up to the plate to take responsibility for the error. His supervisor is furious with me and I know I lost a promotion because of all this. I was not given the opportunity, by anyone to defend myself or explain anything about this situation. Up until now I have had a great relationship with my supervisors. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should handle this situation? I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks. abcmad

It is essential that you professionally and without emotion write a note explaining what took place. Be careful of making absolute statements. Remember there are two sides to every story and some of your assumptions may be wrong or you may not have the full story. Be respectful but outline your concern and ask for a meeting to discuss what took place. Any good company would do that and, if you do it professionally, you will not only have a written record but evidence to your seniors that you are just that |

I've been there myself. My crew had been working as a team for a few months on a particular task. We had an excellent system going. Since it was an out-of-the-ordinary job, set forth from the big boss and we were on the last job(our supervisor had nothing to do with the previous ones, except for stopping by to see how things were going.) Since it was the last hurrah, our supervisor stepped in and took charge and altered everything(which was working like a finely tuned machine up until that point). Our boss made a decision that resulted in the near death of two employees, and just after the incident, he went to the office to tell them"What really happened" which was blaming me for his mistake. I explained my side of the story and filed a grievance. The grievance was thrown out by my boss's boss(his buddy). As I've learned, Never wait to file a complaint. If you are thinking about it, do it. Mine was thrown out because I thought about it too long and waited to file it. Also always make a copy for yourself. It's funny how some complaints and exit interviews turn up missing with no proof they existed. |

Don't feel bad...none of my bosses take accountability..I am the scapegoat and have been held back to...these bosses are really sick, there is no other word for it...they don't care about anyone else but themselves. |
