How should I respond to a performance review I had with 2 bosses at the same time where they had nothing in writing to give to me, stated I was more for the employees, I don't serve my boss, by body language gave impression I was not available but could not give me specific examples. I had to ask if there was anything I did they were pleased with, and they answered yes. Did not suggest ways to improve. I have been with company 11 years, never had a bad review before. I retyped a summary of review and want to respond in some way but not sure if it will make it worse?

Reply: I had been through the same situation as you. What makes it difficult is if bosses are not specific with their feedback; they use general statements that are inscrutable. If I would be you, I would set an appointment with your bosses, and have one-on-one open conversation with them. Be specific on what you want to see happening in your career, state your goals for the job that you want to accomplish, and after that ask questions if your boss has some concerns on your work performance. If there are concerns, then ask how to rectify the deficiencies so that you can improve your performance to serve your customers better. You would know if your work performance is unsatisfactory because a good boss will tell you about it. Otherwise, if ain't broke, don't fix it. Good luck!
