My boss pretended we had been friends for 15years! to keep my co-workers from liking me, when in fact I only knew her face from working in the same business some 15 years ago. They all hated her before I started and their life at work was made awful, I was beginning to feel the "single white female" thing and my colleagues were not very welcoming towards me. I made my own mind up quickly about who the idiot was and once I opened up to the others about the truth they revealed allsorts. I had always felt uncomfortable with her "affections" towards me i.e. treating me like I was her special pet. so I decided that the only way to discourage her behaviour and "thick skinned attitude" was to be cool with her and distant. One day she exploded over something totally pathetic and I refused to be repromanded into the back room to be disciplined or shouted at since she was out of control and in the wrong! I stood up to her and stuck to the facts, while she tried to turn it onto my personal life! which I might add I have always kept private and I am in a very stable and happy relationship. Since that day the tables have turned-I have only improved things for my woek colleagues since she is now very nice to them and a bitch to me. We get complaints every day about her from customers but yet head office don't care or want to know because the branch is in profit. My work colleagues have quickly forgotten how I stood up for us all and have lost their appreciation towards me for changing the situation at work, they are more comfortable and so don't care that I am now the branch scape goat for when anything goes wrong or is not done properly, I can't imagine they stick up for me when I am not there, I don't want to leave as I like my job and it is so hard to get the hours I have in any other place. How do I get the balance right with all of them, while she is in this position of power?
