Not sure if I have rights

About three months ago, I left my job for a better paying one. I gave the company a two weeks notice and the boss seemed understanding. He even told me that I would get paid for my unused vacation time, even though the employee handbook said you don't get paid for that. I brought up that fact, but he said not to worry, he would take care of it. So, of course, three months later, I have not seen a check for this time. I've e-mailed the ex-boss several times asking about the pay, but he has not responded. It's to the point now that it's not about the money, it's the fact that he lied to me. Do I have any rights to get paid since my direct supervisor told me I would, or does the handbook go over him? Should I call his boss on the other side of the country and talk to him about it? Help, please!

Reply: If it isn't in the handbook and you have nothing in writing, you probably won't get far. I wouldn't call his boss b/c you could burn later bridges. (you never know). I would just drop it.
