    Crazy Boss

I am a teacher and I swear and so does everyone else in the town know, my principal is NUTS. She curses not only at the teachers but at the students. She is constantly yelling and screaming. She has highs & lows, we think she is Bipolar. BUT there is nothing we can do about it. The town supports her. WHY? Because she is best friends with the people at the top.

Now her one pet teacher wants to collect $10 from each of us for an end of the year gift. I don't want to. WHY should I when I've been yelled and cursed at and esp. once when I got hurt on the job, she didn't come to my aid just screamed and yelled at me. She got over $300 from us at Christmas time , I don't want to do it again.

    Any thoughts.

Reply: You don't have to donate $10. However, unless you're a union member with a really strong CBA, it would be perfectly legal for this screaming bully to fire you for not donating towards gifts for her. If you're not a union member with a strong CBA, and you think she's gonna find out about your refusing to donate, and you think she'll retaliate when she finds out, you may have to decide whether your job is worth the occasional small donation to a stupid and hypocritical cause. Sad but true. Meanwhile, keep in mind that if she is truly an untreated bipolar, she is her own worst enemy and will soon burn herself out. (And leave.)

Reply: Collective Bargaining Agreement. Many teachers are unionized with strong CBAs - if you're one of those, you can't be fired for not donating. However, if you're not unionized, then unfortunately you CAN legally be fired for not donating.
