    Bosses blaming employees

I am an accountant working for several owners of a company. My job description is clear: that I deal with accounting issues. However, I am a helpful person and a good listener. Several weeks ago, two of the owners asked that I help them with a problem with their neighbor. I offered my advise and they took it. The situation with the neighbor has gone sour and now one of the owners blames me for having taken my advise. It makes me feel sick to my stomach when I face this person, when in the past I could not wait to get to work to start each day. I told the person point blank, in a calm voice and in a professional manner, that I was asked by both for advice. I added that I disagreed with this person and this person had a right to their opinion. On the other hand, when asked I gave my advice and I was sorry that things turned out like they did. Could I have anyone's opinion on my handling of the situation? I know now that I will not be the helpful person I once was because of this event.

Reply: I think they asked you for your opinion because they were insecure people, those types do lash back. Just rememer you gave them honest advice, I am sure. The advice you gave was not meant to harm them. Learn from this not to give advise. Let go of the guilt, it is their problem, not yours.

Reply: It was your bosses choice to use your advise, if they were unsure of it at the time they should have found their own solution! They have no right to blame you. Aswell as the fact that you may not know how they handled the situation with your advice. You personally may have gone about the situation with a different deminor or attitude and the results may have turned out differently. As for not giving your advice, that I believe is a unfair turnout for the simply fact that you can not speak your opinion without being worried their will be some sort of backlash, what right do they have to make you feel like you can't say what is on your mind!
