Boss Breaks Wind Daily
Posted by: TXHadEnough

I have never worked for someone of this caliber. My boss breaks wind, burps and cusses profusely. He has even used the "C" word in mixed company. It's a wonder this guy is still in business...My 5 year old is better disciplined. No doubt this behavior is beyond harrassment. This isn't an occassional behavior...it's about every other day. All of the employees are disgusted with his behavior.

Unless your boss is burping/cussing at you specifically because of your race, religion, age, gender or disability, then this behaviour isn't (unfortunately) illegal harassment, it's just boorish. So you can't sue him for his behaviour. And I don't think you'll be able to re-train him either - if you try, he'll probably just act even worse. I hate saying this because it sounds like such a cop out, but in this particular instance I think it's the only thing you can do - start looking for a new job/boss. And good luck. |

I wish my boss could hold himself to simply breaking wind. Our illustious leader regularly coughed or cleared his nasal passages over the community coffee pot. His behavoir in this area did get marginally better when I arrived one morning with my own 4-cup coffee pot. I made a big production about setting it up. It took a few minutes for him to come ask me about why I had my own coffee and pot. I told him that I had a thing about eating or drinking from sources that just anyone could walk up to with their germs, cooties, and nasty behavior. I didn't mention any names but I think he got the hint. Now if we could just teach him to chew with his mouth closed. |

Hadenough,
Why don't you bring in a whoopie cushion and sit on it in his presence? Surely he'd recognize a kindred spirit, right? Maybe you'll get a raise!!
Seriously, if its not a job you highly treasure in the first place, find another one where the boss maintains a semblance of professional courtesy, and the air is cleaner. |

Keep in mind- depending on where you live- that if his foul mouth continues and you keep detailed records of it, over time it could be contstrued as a hostile work environment. Now I'm not saying run out to the EEOC and file a charge, but keep that in mind. You have the right to work in an environment free from harrassment and hostility. Good luck. p.s. If he uses the "C" word again, talk to your HR department immediately. Not many words offend me but that one is the worst!! |
