False accusations of poor performance by boss

First off, I would like to thank everyone for providing their advice.

My situation is that my boss issued me a "poor perforamce" letter. He had several comments/accusations in this letter which is truly unfounded. For example, there was an issue that he claimed I never informed him about, but I have proof in a e-mail that he was carbon copied on this issue. There are multiple accusations in his letter of which I can refute with concrete evidence. I have written a response letter, with back-up evidence to show that all his claims are incorrect and unfounded, but am unclear on how to continue to approach this issue. Should I go to Human Resources first and tell them that the letter given to me was totally inaccurate and is riddled with false accusations? I'm confused as to how to proceed, because I know that it will make our work relationship unbearable. Should I request a transfer out of the department or just look to get out of the company, even though I enjoy working there?

Reply: Get an attourney now before doing anything!!!!!!!!! VERY IMPORTANT. HR departments will lie and mislead you. Get an attourney, there are so many willing to help you without money up front. Make sure all your evidence is safely stored in your home or somewhere away from the people you work with. (its funny how evidence can disappear)

Reply: Ok- (1) If your review is the one you described. DO NO SIGN IT. I do not care how much they push. Stay cool and do not sign,. (2) A rbutal is fine w? documentation, just stay on point (3) DO NOT go to HR. They are not your friends, they work for the company.Once you go there, you are the enemy. Good luck.

Reply: I agree, human resources is not for you, seek legal counsel first. I made the mistake of contacting human resources twice and now I am the "trouble maker".
