    verbally abusive boss

I joined a team of 4 working for a verbally abusive, successful woman in a major financial firm. She talks down to everyone, insults, blames and accuses. She is so incredibly lazy, unprofessional, and unknowledgeable that she will call you into her office to log her into her computer, or enter a trade for her, or even check her voicemail. When we are busy she runs around dumb and helpless. If you didnt see it u wouldnt believe it. Whenever a situation presents itself she throws it in your lap, makes u come up with the solution and criticizes it. It is so bad we cringe when the phone rings or she enters. She is successful because she has no life, is an intelligent reader and picks great investments. Her clients have no clue, of how abusive she is. We have all found new jobs and given our notice. I am angry that HR continues to hire people knowing it is truly a revolving door- they pitch a wonderful opportunity and you quickly learn otherwise. Her mean reputation is widespread. She has gone thru at lease 7 assistants in 4 years. We are disposable, she brings in the big bucks. What can be done, before she brings sorrow into the next assistants life? When does it end, mgmt cares less.

Reply: Unfortunately, many companies do not realize it is less expensive to keep good, reliable experienced employees...and more expensive to keep hirong and training new people. She must bring in a HUGE amount of money to be allowed to get away with this, or perhaps she has a relative holding a very high postion in the comapmy. I used to work in a revolving door postion until one day the comapny realized what was gong on, and questioned the dept manager and told him to tune it down. There is not really much you can do, based on my experience, until the company realizes what is going on, and why so many people are coming and going. It will happen eventually. I used to work for a woman who did all these things you mention, plus...she had HORRIBLE body odor. She is still in the same postion in the same location 10 years later as far as I know. People like this do not get ahead.
