Thank you so much for your insightful article. Having just worked for the President of a company who was a bully, your words about "true" bullies, resonated and truly made me know that I am not alone.

I have to say, it took me a while, maybe ten years of working, to figure out what I really wanted: a) to work part-time not full-time, even if it means less income bc it's all I can do with my stress levels, and b) find good people to work with. Not perfect people, but people whose idiosyncracies I can stand.
Last year, I was busy complaining on these boards about the hell I was in with my boss. I saved up enough money, then quit. It was scary quitting without another job ahead of me. I had to contract for awhile with no steady income but a little here and a little there. Then with my good luck and help from God, one of those contract people needed a permanent employee - that was me! I was hired about seven months after I quit. It was a hard period to get through, but within a year, it's been a nice change. I can look back at where I was before and I just hated it. I hated the person I worked for. Now, my good boss seems even better knowing where I've been. It takes courage to walk away but I believe if you put yourself financially in a position to do it, it's the best thing to leave.

How do some of these people ever become managers? I too have a mean boss. The only time I hate my job is when she is going to be at work too and unfortunately she doesn't work from home. We have already made a trip to HR because of a fight we had recently yet her behavior doesn't change. I don't think it is necessary to be rude and\or condesending when you speak to someone especially a co-worker. I really don't feel inspired to show up to work tomorrow but the bills need paid. I will be walking on eggs with the rest of you who have bad bosses. Hang in there!

I have to carry a 2 way radio as I work for a school. I've heard the expression "The only dumb question is one never asked". Try telling that to my boss who comes back over as a smart a**. He is also sneaky. We are suppose to rotate overtime, so everyone has the opportunity. He calls the same 2 guys to the side. In fact, if you are a woman, which I am, forget it!

I don't know how these people become Managers. My boss walks around like his brains are scrambled. He thinks women are dumb. He has Epilepsy. Why is he allowed to drive? People with Epilesy can more than likely work, drive and live normal lives. This guy, however, totally doesn't think straight and he can be quite forgetful. God forbid we remind him. He gets a little rude and cocky.

Its actually the training they get in their MBA or whatever. Its specifically written in the books. So that means you cannot do anything. Unless there's a massive campaign against such study.

Bad bosses used up all their brain cells kissing butt, to get their jobs. Thus the stupid, abusive, bullying behavior. No brains. ;)
Be sure to remember how you were treated by these people, and refuse to treat others this way.
