What Blacklisting laws exist in Virginia, including against employers using "invalid sources" for employment references, when the person the employer calls was not given as a "reference", particularly as it applies to applying to federal jobs within the state of Virginia, when the "badmouthing" supervisor is not an "official" reference-giver, and when the would-be next employer gathers that information only via a phone call, not on "permission" forms?

I'm writing from Alberta, Canada. I accepted a position as a legal assistant (15 yrs experience); I subsequently decided not to take the job; employer was very upset. I am now unable to secure any type of office work, and suspect this employer is somehow involved. How can I investigate? Any ideas?

I'm am writing to say that I feel that I am being blacklisted. It has been 2 years since I have worked. Everytime that my credit report is pulled and an employer has already offered me a job, it has been rescinded. I don't know if bad comments are written in the actual report but I have not been able to find out what is being done. So, my entire life has been ruined.

I suspect I have been backlisted in the call center industry in California. My resume has been posted on Career Builder since December of 2005 and I have interviewed with various employers to no aveil, some employers did not even respond to my resume. I am very frustrated and would like any information anyone may have concerning this situation.
