    Foreign Manager in the US

Our company headquarters is in Japan, and our Executive Management team is Japanese (only one of whom speaks English). Aside from cultural/language differences, we have a serious problem with one manager who is inclined to violent rages. He screams at employees, threatens them, and has even tried to run over a warehouse temporary with a forklift. He claims he is "typical Japanese" and this is why he behaves this way. We desperately need suggestions for how to cope with this individual, as he isn't going anywhere and his manager (our President) is well aware of his behavior, but does not see the need for correction. We would appreciate suggestions from Anyone who has experience dealing with such personalities.

Reply: Can you say "lawyer"?? I mean, really, this is not the middle ages. The "I'm from another culture" cop-out is an effort to excuse the tyrannical temper tantrums. /*Dave

Reply: Yes, I'd say "Lawyer" too. I'm originally from Japan and I worked in Japan for a few years, but never seen or heard anything like that while I was in Japan. However I admit that when I worked for a couple different Japanese companies here in US, Japanese managers seemed to be very incompetent, have some issues with local employees (who knows why) and seemed to practice some strange management tactics on local employees.

Reply: call your HR department and document everything. Additionally, contact your state labor agency for advice. any supervisor, foreign or domestic, must comply with state labor laws.
