    Is he harrassing us?

I have been working at my new job for almost 6months. My new superivior (floor manager) makes me feel very small almost on a daily basis. He is constantly questioning everything I do. Nothing I say to him is ever valid. When I ask him why he doesn't believe me his responce is "You're new". He belittles me in front of the GSM and GM. I have also heard him flat LIE about me not "preforming well and how he came to my rescue" to the managers above us, only to make himself look better. I have actually caught him in several lies and when I confront him about them I get yelled at and belittled to the point where I'm so upset I am shaking. I have talked with the managers above us about this issue and yet NOTHING has been done. I LOVE MY JOB. I make great money and great along with all of my other co-works very well. I dont want to quit but I cannot low my self-esteem over a job. I need some advice.

Reply: Regarding whether or not this is harassment, well, it may well be harassment, but it's not illegal harassment. Harassment is only illegal if it's directed specifically at your race, gender, age, religion, or disability, and so on. From your post, it doesn't sound like your supervisor is harassing you for any of these reasons. Regarding how to deal with this guy, one thing I recommend you stop doing right away is confronting him - about his lies or anything else. Bullies tend to react extremely negatively to being confronted, and all the confrontation ever does is worsen their behaviour. If you keep confronting him like this, he will continue to abuse you, and may even get so mad he fires you at some point. And this would be (unfortunately) a perfectly legal thing for him to do. I recommend you keep your head down around him and try to get close with your coworkers for emotional support.

Reply: Thanks for your advice. I do want to note I have only confronted him once and yes, there was a HUGE blow up on his behalf. Fortunately he has no authority to fire me.
