    Oh, Drama!!!

I have what my husband affectionately calls a "Drama Queen." She seems to panic whenever things don't go her way, and it often escalates to either swearing, or her voice going up a few octaves, in a very whiny tone.

This boss is trying to refuse me family-related time off (though it's not FLMA related). I already informed her a few weeks ago that I would be going out of state and let her know what days I could not work. She went and scheduled me one of those days, even though I put in for vacation time and had everything approved by HR. I told her up front that there was no way that I could physically be there, that I had something family-related. She threatened that it "wouldn't be pretty" when I came back at the beginning of the week.

I have gone to HR before because this boss often acts in an intimidating way...telling me why I shouldn't want to transfer, threatening me for no good reason, and now that I've revealed to her that I'm pregnant, telling me that I'm no doubt (suddenly) forgetful and that I'd better be careful. She's telling me that I "can't transfer," even though other department managers have approached me with a lot of interest. This has happened with numerous employees. There is quite a bit of turnover in my department. She also gossips about employees, and has made a comment about wanting to have physical relations with her boss. I find her behavior pretty offensive, especially for someone who's a manager. How is the most constructive way to approach HR about this? And how is the best way to deal with whatever the ugly consequences might be?

Reply: Name the game, call her bluff..? I would talk to the HR and just vent and seek their advise and see, if they can help. I've had to do this because my boss was driving me around the bend. They listened and gave me some advise, and it was all confidential. I am in theprocess of transferring to another dept, and my boss blew a gasket. She's not graceful about this at all, but ultimately I hope she has just committed professional suicide. If not, I am not there to be her punching bag any longer
