    Can you quit like this???

I work in a smallish place, 20 odd employees and I've worked here for 13 years. My boss is a complete nut case and treats me horrible. I've been wanting to quit for some time and my husband says I can quit in one year or sooner if we get pregnant again. I plan to be a stay at home mom with no plans to work outside the home for many years if at all. My idiot boss will be retiring in 2-3 years so chances are he will not be here if I needed a reference for another job at that time. And I don't think I would use him anyway since I can't trust he'd give me a good one. I've done my job as well as I can but he has never liked me, especially since I got him in trouble for sexual harrassement about ten years back! He got put on six weeks unpaid leave for punishment and I should have quit then but stupid me stayed here and continued to be subtly abused, in ways I cannot prove so I have no one to protect me.

My boss does exit interviews where he proceeds to tell you how bad you are and says lots of nasty things. I don't want to go through this. So I have thought about quitting at the end of my maternity leave if I am pregnant via certified mail 2 weeks before my leave is up and not even coming back. Or if I am not pregnant I have thought about taking 2 weeks vacation and quitting the same way.

Can I do this? Are there rules against it? I just want to avoid being harassed for those last two weeks and having that horrible interview.

Thanks! And no, we have no human resources to protect us.

Reply: Get a sick leave just before? I don't know where you live and what the legal righst and obligations are, but check with the local employment office and see what can be done - or not.

Reply: The most important thing is your happiness and your health. If you are not happy working where you are then quit. Your husband should understand the situation you are in, and forcing you to continue working there under those conditions, is not acceptable. If you are unable to quit right away due to finaces, then find another job, and then quit. However, with those comments in mind, I agree somehwhat with Bumble Bee. I believe all you HAVE to give is two weeks notice, however, if you quit after taking a two week vacation, make sure you don't have to pay back the company for your vacation pay. the same with the maturnity. Good Luck.
