Insecure Boss stressing out my dept.

I have been dealing with a boss who is very insecure, and extremely concerned how she and the dept is perceived by the higher ups and her peers. Her management style is by intimdation and everybody is running around like chickens without a head. I have been her punching bag over the past year and I am at the point, I where I dread going to work, have anxiety attacks, suffer from depression and emotionally eating myself into obesity. I have decided to leave the company and asked a friend, if he would be a reference for me. This friend is part of the management team, and he has offered me a job on his team. I have decided to take it. My boss blew a gasket and won't talk to me unless it's business. She's agreed to release me immediately, but due to some interal politicking, my transfer will take at least a week or two- maybe more. Meanwhile, things have gotten very awkward and difficult as the department is unaware of this upcoming change, and my boss is taking on most of my responsibilities... I feel very terrible about it. LIke all of you, my life has been sheer hell, I have felt like a stupid imbecile, because every time I have talked to my boss, she totally invalidatesmy feelings and minimizes my concerns. Her behaviour is disgusting. Anybody else every go through anything like this?

Reply: Hi Bumble Bea, yes I have gone through the same situation as you. In short. What is so important to you. Your health or Money? I Know everyone needs money to live the life. Don't stress out yourself to much, it will only affect you. Think about this. if something happens to you tomorrow the company ur working for is not going to wait for you they will go ahead and hire someone and not think about you. So just relax work only 8 hr and once you step out side of the door forget everything about work. Than next morning when you go back to work, you just start from where you left off. Try this. I did work under insucure boss and after lot of stress i decided to leave the company, but My resignation letter was all on her how bad her management style is and how the department is intimated by her. when i met with HR they were like how and what ways do you feel so intimated. i explained them, the situation and they were very sorry to here what i Had to say. Good Luck Bumble Bea

Reply: Good luck with your new job!! Focus on yourself, now that you have a new beginning. Do something about your anxiety, depression and overeating. don't feel terrible or guilty about leaving a bad situation, but do safeguard your future. i joined weight watchers and am taking yoga classes. i take one college course per semester. you need to be around supportive people!! i struggle with bullies at work now. all i keep doing is trying to improve myself and not focus on them. it is hard though, because you have to address the bullies eventually or they will keep on doing it. practice responses to the bully. chances are you will meet another one in the next job. good luck!
