What are the basic coping strategies for a coping with a manager two levels above me who constantly assigns things directly with no ability for my direct manager to counter, mediate or change what is required.

Secondarily, this person seems to have absolutlely "no life". Tasks are piled on tasks in such a flurry that no one can possibly execute all the tasks and so..

there are a about seven of us who deal with this person and these circumstances...

Reply: You need to find out who you must answer to and when. Report what the manager two levels above gives you to the manager one level above you until you can ascertain who is really expecting you to answer to whom. If one is vague and the other dominant, answer to the dominant one. List everything expected of you and when and present it at a meeting. Get answers.

Reply: matildagsd - again, excellent advice. Hansie - totally useless advice, why on earth did you bother?
