[Back to message list] [Reply to this topic] [Start a new topic] I got evenPosted by: fortenberry Two years ago I had a nightmare of a boss. Not only did I work myself to exhaustion, including working through lunch and without breaks, she then proceeded to harass me with threats of firing me because users were complaining that I sounded exhausted and tired on the phone. Really? She also talked down to people and treated me with utter disrespect. After trying various options, including a company intermediary, I had enough. I decided to go back to school full time and get my Masters. When I gave notice, my supervisor (not the boss) tried to talk me out of it. There was no way I was staying. During the exit interview with the Deputy of HR, I explained everything. Turns out that there were various rumours about this boss, but no one ever made a complaint, nor did they provide proof. The upshot? Ten days after I left the company, HR called me and insisted that they pay for the lunch hours I worked. I never asked for the money, because the hours were never recorded. The overtime occurred because we were so short staffed and I was generally stuck. My only possible proof was the report that indicated how many calls I took and how many tickets I resolved, which was more than double than anyone else, a copy of which I handed to the Deputy of HR. I checked with a lawyer about this odd turn of events. She advised I take the money and run. Today, I've completed my Masters, have a job I truly enjoy and have a wonderful boss. The moral of this story? Sometimes it's best to leave a company for the sake of your own sanity. If nothing else, find another job. Some bad bosses are beyond redemption.
