    No Reference , No reason

I am a student and I was working in a well known food chain and was highy regarded by my boss. An incident occured, where I was left by myself to close the store one very busy (unsually busy) night and clean everything as other staff members 'couldn't stay back" leading to overtime of two hours. I left my boss a note explaining why I had stayed back and that I was very dissapointed with what had occured that evening. He seemed to have ignored the note and when I confronted him about it the next day he brushed it aside. A week later he suddenly realised that I had stayed overtime and said he was cancelling my shifts, I felt this was unfair so I wrote a resignation letter stating that due to unforseen circumstances I would have to leave immediately ( I was only a casual worker and felt I should leave on good terms or try too ). Everyone there is casual and they all recieved references when asked for, but he told staff that i would be the only one not getting one ( I know many of the staff members personally). I feel I did nothing to him and now have to suffer. I want to find another job but I am not sure if I should put him down as a reference? I know it is probably wise not to, but I feel I worked for a long time there and its a shame not to. Any advice would be appreciated.

Reply: Instead of putting him down as a reference on your resume, you might try writing yourself a letter of reference and ask him to sign it for you. That way you could control what is said about you. Good luck with this situation. I think you're doing all the right things.

Reply: Very well advice from "fsmpices" If you did not work with them that long, forget about it. I would say that. They all acted that way,, and you are a student. You go to scchool, you can finish all those courseworks required, you know how to think, making decison and so on.. because of education back you up.. for better decision, better judgement, and better performance. In such a situation, I can see the problems.... they were told what to do.. that is all they know.. They may end up that.. it's a nature of the business, no OT.... of course... That's all about.. You do the right thing .. of course... Forget about it if you can..

Reply: Depending on how long you were employed there, for example, if you were there for only a few weeks, I personally wouldn't list that company on my resume. Also, if the job is not related in some way to the new position you are looking for, I wouldn't list it either.
